Data Sources & Methodology

Every figure, filing, and headline on StreetIdea comes from a clearly identified upstream source. This page lists each one, what we display, what we omit, how often it refreshes, and the license under which we use it.

Insider trading data

Form 4 and related insider transaction filings are pulled directly from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's EDGAR system. EDGAR data is in the public domain.

SEC EDGAR Public domain

Source of every insider trade we display. We pull the official Form 4 RSS feed and parse the underlying XML to extract insider name, role, transaction type, share counts, prices, and reported dates.

Stock prices, fundamentals, and earnings

Real-time and reference data on listed equities is licensed from Finnhub. We use both their free and paid tiers depending on the dataset.

Finnhub.io Licensed

Quote, profile, and earnings data provider. We pull current price, daily change, market capitalization, volume, exchange, sector, industry, executives, and earnings calendar entries.

Refresh: Quotes hourly via cron/sync_quotes.php; profiles weekly via cron/sync_stocks.php
License: Per Finnhub's API Terms of Service. We display data only — no bulk redistribution.
Delay: Prices are end-of-day or intraday with at least 15 minutes' delay relative to the live exchange feed.

News headlines

The "Latest News" section is a discovery feed. We aggregate headlines from licensed RSS feeds published by major financial news outlets — never the full article body. Each headline links back to the original publisher, who hosts the full content.

We display: headline, publisher name, summary (when the publisher provides one in their RSS feed), publication time, and a link back to the publisher.
We never display: full article body, paywalled content, or any republication of the publisher's prose.

What we don't use

No scraped paid databases. We do not pull from Bloomberg Terminal, Refinitiv, FactSet, S&P Capital IQ, or any other licensed database we don't have a contract with.
No copy-pasted news bodies. When you click a news headline, you go to the original publisher's site. We do not host the article body.
No undisclosed sponsored coverage. Editorial is never paid for. Advertising is clearly labeled and served via Google AdSense.

Spot a data error?

Insider trade data occasionally needs cleanup — issuers refile Form 4s, names get reformatted, or a tabular field gets parsed incorrectly.
